Update: God placed it on someone’s heart to send us a huge meat package from Omaha Steaks! The order date was last week before we even knew our meats had been ruined. The package came today! I cannot even tell you how blessed we feel. God is taking care of us!

Our deep freezer quit working while we were on vacation and I had just bought tons of All Natural meat from a huge meat sale. I am going to have to get seriously creative with our food now if we are going to keep competing in the All You grocery contest. If you know of a meat sale, email me!

We had another beach vacation! My husband’s aunt called us and they had a week where the didn’t have any renters for their beach house. They wanted to know if we wanted to come (for free!). We knew if we went again, we would have to keep this very affordable. We brought a cooler full of food and two grocery bags of snacks. We ended up spending about $120 on our entire trip!  I’m not sure if we would have done so well if we weren’t participating the All You Grocery Contest. Our meals were really good and it was easy to cook because we were so relaxed during the day! I think it was a good idea! It costs $5000 to rent this beach house for a week so I think we saved about $5310 on our vacation!

My friend bought some organic chicken on sale with $2 off quick purchase coupons on them (the ones that the meat department put on to get the meat to sell that is expiring soon.) We opened the chicken for a party the next day and the smell was foul so we had to throw them out. I have had this happen before with chicken but never with ground beef or steak. I usually only keep meat in my fridge for 2 days or I freeze it right away no matter what the expiration date is. I know some people who are a lot more relaxed than I am and keep meat in their fridge until the expiration.

After our latest incident, I’m not sure if I would buy any chicken with sell quickly coupons on them, but I would buy the meat with the coupons and freeze it right away. How about you? Do you buy meat on sale?

I am doing the All You Grocery Contest and I have discovered when it comes to being frugal, my heart (and husband) are very very happy! We are taking a little trip soon and I wanted to get your ideas about cooking food on the go. We will have a kitchen to cook our meals in and my husband’s parents have offered to take us out one night (which is allowed for the contest). I am thinking spaghetti with marinara the first night because it is fabulous and I can bring it in a bag. I’ll probably go to the grocery store and get some items for 3 other meals. What should I cook? What’s easy, inexpensive and yummy?
