Running of The Brides
I have to share a story about my wedding dress. The day I bought it might have been the day that I became an official bargain shopper! My dad had seen that big commercial that David’s Bridal has every year where they show the father of the bride that there are dresses available for $99! So my dad told me, see they are affordable! Yikes!
I finally found the dress I loved at a store for $799. With my heart set on that dress, I headed over to the clearance isle to see what the store had available for $99. Low and behold, they had my dress of choice on clearance for $99 with a button missing! My neighbor was able to match the button exactly for about $5, Saving me around $694!
Speaking of dress bargains, have you heard about the Running of the Brides?
This Friday is the last Filene’s Basement Running of the Brides event for the year! It will be held at the Filene’s Basement in Cleveland, Ohio. If you getting married, are athletic and love a good bargain, this event is for you! The bridal gowns are designer brands and are thousands of dollars off. Doors open at 8 am but some brides spend the night outside to be first in line for the mad dash! Then they race off to grab as many wedding dresses as they can and start trying them on. They even barter dresses with each other if they need another size. You can read more about this wild event here!

On the 27 Dresses dvd they have a little featurette about the running of the brides. It stressed me out!! No way would I EVER want to do that.

I got my wedding dress in a similar way: from the returns room at the JC Penney warehouse that used to be nearby. IRRC I paid under $50 for it.

I got a good deal on my wedding dress too but it was still about $250.
I wish I could see The Running of the Brides sometime. They should made a reality TV show on it. LOL

I got a bargain wedding dress! I tried on a dress in a dress store one Saturday and fell in love. Before I committed to paying full price for the dress, I searched ebay to see if I could find the same dress. Sure enough, a bridal store in California was selling their floor samples and had my dress for $99!

Let’s just say I did NOT get a good deal on my wedding dress!! I paid a whole lot for that sucker! But I loved it tons.
They always had the running of the brides here at the original Filene’s Basement in downtown Boston, but that store is closed now.
I hear the craziest stories about it, though.
