Choosing Summer Activities While Considering Rising Gas Prices

July 2nd, 2008 · No Comments

My dad always said the only thing better than having a boat is realizing that you know someone does. You see, boats are very expensive and this way you don’t have to pay all the expenses but you can still enjoy the amenities! My dad worked really hard for his boss and helped him maintain his boat so that we could enjoy it during the summer! It was a great trade off and my dad taught us that hard work would bring great blessings! He also fixed up a condo in South Padre Island and did yard work at a camping lodge. He was very handy and did all these things so that my mom could stay home when I was little and we could still enjoy nice vacations!

Recently we moved to a lake community. This may have been the best decision we have ever made with the price of gas right now! Within walking distance of a tenth of a mile, we have access to a small private beach and boat launch area that only our street of 12 houses can use. We can also walk half a mile to a huge beach that our whole lake community can use. We can kayak and fish and have tons of fun without using any gas. Our lake taxes are not too high and are totally worth the gas we are saving right now! Our boys are in heaven with all the summer fun!

What do you do if you don’t live on a lake? Do you know a friend who does? Do you have a family member or neighbor who has a pool? Do you live near a state park? State park passes cost between $50-$100 a year. Most parks have a great kiddie area where kids can swim.

What are some other things you can do this summer that are frugal activities? Please share!
