Starting today we will have a new Mr.Linky called How To Tuesday. If we can learn How To Do certain things on our own,  it can really help us save money!

Here’s what to do: Post a HOW TO Post on your blog, publish it, copy the exact post and past it on Mr. Linky. You can post your How To Post about anything, such as, How To get your kids to bed. (I will be printing that one if you do chose to post about it because I need to know that!) In your post please link back to me so your readers can read other HOW TO Stories. To entice you to participate, I will randomly draw the name of one participant who uses Mr. Linky correctly to win a $25 CVS gift card. I got this post up very late so I will allow you to post your How To Post on Mr Linky until Friday.

I am going to start my own post on How To Eat Healthier. First I have to post a disclaimer that my knowledge is very minimal, but I was very surprised to find out this information. I’m not saying that you have to run throw out the bacon, but the more you are aware of, the better.

1. Read labels. Avoid any item that has high fructose corn syrup. It’s in all sodas and some juices. It’s in all kinds of breakfast bars and fruit type snacks. Merchants are getting smart and slowly starting to make things without it.

2. Keep fast food to a minimum. We eat out at one hamburger place because I know they use an all natural beef patty. My kids won’t eat at McDonalds. My four year old has gotten sick there twice and he won’t eat there. He even went up to a lady once at the airport while she was downing a Big Mack and said “Did you know McDonalds is bad for you?”

3. Raw goat’s milk is better for you.

4. Eat foods that are locally grown or organic. (You don’t want to be the one to discover restrauants need a tomato recall!)

5. Don’t eat corn from the regular grocery store. Most corn is genetically modified. You can get corn products that say no gmo’s at your local health food store. Local farms may state that they have no gmo’s as well.

6. If you can’t afford organic meats, look for ones that are all natural, with no hormones or antibiotics. All natural almost always means they are what I call almost organic but the soil at the farms have not been organic for four years.

7. Eat sprouted breads. Myth -100% Whole Wheat Bread is good for you. This is a myth. Whole wheat bread is not that good for you. You can get Alvarado Sprouted Bread or Ezekiel Sprouted bread from the health food store.

8. Don’t drink anything diet. Don’t drink diet sodas. It’s almost always better to eat the real thing. Use honey to sweeten drinks. Don’t use artificial sweeteners. Use real butter. Don’t use margarine.

Start doing any of these things and you will be onto a healthier lifestyle!

It’s your turn! Write your HOW TO Tuesday and link it here!

If you are trying to eat healthy or more locally produced foods, I found an awesome web site, www.localharvest.org. You can type in your zip code and see all the farms that sell food as well as local farmers markets in your area.

Did you hear this story about an elderly man who was hit by a car in Hartford and no one helped him? This story is all over the nation because there was a video of people who called 911 and then just walked on by. If you live in a town where strangers help each other you should count your blessings!

The other day I was on the way to a new MOPS group here and I got lost. (Thank you Yahoo Maps!) so I went into a gas station to ask for directions. One of the ladies was so nice that she got out her laptop and mapped the directions for me. I was so touched by her willingness to help that I gave her a cute Coldwater Creek shopping key chain that an older lady once gave to me for helping her. I told her that it was really rare that she would be so kind and told her that she could keep the key chain or pass on the “good samaritan” key chain to someone else someday. There are some good folks out there!

“Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for by this some have entertained angels without knowing it.” Hebrews 13:2
