Did you hear this story about an elderly man who was hit by a car in Hartford and no one helped him? This story is all over the nation because there was a video of people who called 911 and then just walked on by. If you live in a town where strangers help each other you should count your blessings!
The other day I was on the way to a new MOPS group here and I got lost. (Thank you Yahoo Maps!) so I went into a gas station to ask for directions. One of the ladies was so nice that she got out her laptop and mapped the directions for me. I was so touched by her willingness to help that I gave her a cute Coldwater Creek shopping key chain that an older lady once gave to me for helping her. I told her that it was really rare that she would be so kind and told her that she could keep the key chain or pass on the “good samaritan” key chain to someone else someday. There are some good folks out there!
“Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for by this some have entertained angels without knowing it.” Hebrews 13:2

When my husband and I were in New York a couple of years ago for my sister’s Manhattan wedding into a “society” family, we remarked to another couple that we were surprised at how friendly everyone was. The lady shrugged and said, “It’s because none of us are from here!”

I am a transplant to the m id west from NJ. I understand completely how you feel. The kindness I notice is unquestionable. Unfortunately enough bad things happen and it prevents you from continuing to do good.
I was in Piitsburgh sirport one very late evening by myself and a man asked me if he could jump his car. I hesitated…enough so that he noticed. Against my initial instinct…I did drive my car around to help him. I hoped God was on my side. I also noticed some people in the parking lot……..and thought they would help me need be.
I hope you continue to help others no matter what has been done unto you.
PS- I love your website and check it daily! Keep up the good work.

It breaks my heart whenever I hear about people being un kind towards old people and children! Makes me mad too.

I dont think its a big deal- its probably for the best. They were probably not the kind of person you would want to associate with anyways. My husband tried to help a lady whose car was overheating and she opened up the radiator cap on him as he was standing near the car. Sometimes it isnt the best for all.

You are right that it’s so rare to meet people that are really willing to help you!

I decided that I forgive the two guys in the truck.

Yes ma’am. The culture is different here. Although the deal with that old man in Hartford was truly horrific and worse than the usual. I ind that although people here are much more aloof generally, there are some really nice people out there, too.
