Pay It Forward!

April 1st, 2008 · 8 Comments

Do you pay it forward? Marisela shared a neat story of how she pays it forward.

“I watched the Big Give last night and was convicted to pay it forward. I am frugal at heart and have learned so much more from your site. Yesterday I came home with 6 boxes of cereal. My husband said, we can’t eat all that…so that’s when the conviction set in. I prayed last night to the Lord to help me share some of our abundance. The answer came last night.

We are going to Weatherford, Texas this weekend to visit friends. Some time ago I was told of a home for children that provides a safe, stable environment for them to grow. So I called them up today and they take cereal and all kinds of donations. So I sent an email to my coworkers, friends and family and hope to fill my Highlander with cereal and goodies for this kids. I love being a frugal shopper and I’m so blessed to be able to share some that abundance with little ones in need. If you live in the MidCities are in Fort Worth and would like to donate some goodies for the kids, I’ll be happy to meet you for pick up. Don’t forget to pay it forward!!!”

I have talked to Marisela when she did our bag giveaway and am encouraged by her generosity!

I used to be really good at taking extra food to the food pantry, until I had my second child. Now, I am happy if I can get the food for my own family let alone remember to stop by the pantry, but that doesn’t mean that I have to quit giving to others. Now I usually share groceries with my neighbors and pass down clothes to friends.

How do you pay it forward? We want to hear your ideas!

I was just thinking of this same idea this morning…I’m planning to take some of the freebie toiletries to the homeless shelter as from what i understand, they are always in need of soaps, shampoo, deodorant, ect…..
So….if anyone in the Northern VA area wants to join me….let me know!

I got 16 boxes of free cereal last week and we’re donating most of it. I also have a stash of soap, toothpaste, shampoo, body wash, etc. that we donate when people have been the victim of a house fire.

    Blessings–
    Dana

You do a great jog of paying it forward with this website. Thanks for the ministry.

When my running OLD running shoes get piled up, I try to remember to keep a few for yard work but I’m giving some to the local running store (Fleet Feet) for a program where they donate them to the needy.

It’s always nice to go through old clothes a couple of times a year and donate what you don’t want, too.

All of the CVS and Walgreen’s cheapies and freebies go to our church’s pantry (toiletries accepted as well). Even if we don’t need 10 bottles of shower/body wash…someone could use it. Since I can get it free with the rebates/ExtraCare bucks, it provides a great way for us to provide a lot of stuff. Not that I mind spending money on such items, but it is great that all of those freebies are out there and even if my family cannot use them, someone else can. Just commented on it in my blog today actually (wow…I think God is telling us all something!)

Yesterday I took my daughter to the dr. Before I left, I printed off a few coupons for a $25 gc to CVS with any new or transferred Rx. I gave them to her pediatrician to give to someone she thought might be able to use them.

Last weekend I printed some of your “fun” coupons to use at the mall (Victoria’s Secret and Bath & BodyWorks). When we went into Victoria’s Secret I saw an older lady with her arms full of VS lotion, body wash, and perfumes. I, myself was having a hard time deciding what to buy so I could get the freebie-afterall, I certainly don’t need anything. So I gave the lady the coupon. She was so thankful - she said she was buying gifts for her daughters and now could maybe get something for herself, too. It made her day! And it made mine, too.

Another good way to pay it forward on a daily basis is to just smile. Smiles are contagious!

    Thanks for the inspiration :-)
