Blanca Torres from the Contra Costa Times in California called me last week for a phone interview to find out why people like to bargain shop. Apparently, Ross Dress For Less has sales that are shooting through the roof right now as Americans are out searching for great bargains. Blanca wrote a neat article that mentioned The Bargain Shopper Lady site here.

I thought that we could do a little idea sharing of our own! What is your favorite place to find a bargain? Why?

My kids’ wardrobes come from Goodwill. All kids clothes are $1.99! God always seems to bless me with being at the right place at the right time as far as finding new or like new, brandname clothes in just the sizes I need. For instance I just bought my daughter’s Easter dress…It’s an American Girl dress!!! And looks like it’s never been worn. Mom and daughter are thrilled with that purchase!!

  2. I love love love Steinmart. I have the preferred customer card (its free) and they send you notices when they are having one of their famous red dot clearance sales with a 20% off the clearance price coupon. I rountinely go in there and pick up $60.00 shirts for just a few bucks. I’ve also gotten lots of great dresses, shoes and home decor there as well.

I also find great bargains at Goodwill in both clothes & household items, but timing is everything when shopping at Goodwill. I have purchased Coldwater Creek or comparable brands still with tags on, for $4.99, and a few Southern Living at Home items. One lovely SLAH serving set for $4 was obviously never used, but would have cost $70 otherwise. Tuesday Mornings is my favorite store for home decor & garden & gift-buying, with unusual and beautiful items at great prices. And Marshall’s has a good shoe selection now, including Born & Clarke & Merrill, my favorite brands at a discount.

Oops, I also meant to mention woot.com, which offers daily deals in electronics & misc with a flat $5 shipping fee. I’ve gotten great prices on my camera, HP printer, an ice cream maker, toaster, shredder, etc…. Woot.com has some spin-offs, like wine.woot.com and shopping.yahoo.com/?name-woot#woot. Some devotees actually stay up until midnight to see the woot deal of the day, and good deals can go fast, so it’s best to check the site early! Thanks for sharing all your great tips!

These are great ideas! I too love Tuesday Morning for home decor!
I have a friend who goes to Sams Club and gets hardwood flooring. If someone orders it online and returns it, they then offer it in store at a base price. After a year she saved enough to have her husband redo her whole house. It looks so awesome!

Your site is my favorite place to come to find a bargain!!! I come here everyday….I found the link to your blog from Beth Moore’s daughter’s blog and I’m a total fan now!
My best finds are buying prescription coupons on eBay so that i always have one on hand when i need to get something filled……so even if i pay $10 for a script…i get a gift card for $25 ….or $30 using your rite aid link!
Also, i buy Victoria Secret free panty coupons on eBay….you can only use one per person per day, but with my 2 teenage daughters, we can use 3 a day……I used to get these coupons really cheap but more people have started buying them….but even if you pay $11 for 7 or 8 coupons …that’s a good deal! Also, if i REALLY want to ensure an eBay win…..i bid for it using AuctionSniper …so that it places my bid with 7 seconds left on the time….i almost always win when i do this…..
I too shop at Goodwill and hit every yard sale i can…..if i find something that’s a great deal but i don’t need it……i sell it on eBay!
    That’s about it…..Beth

I love Goodwill for the kids! I live in a really nice area, and I buy Polo’s and other namebrand items regularly at $2 each in Goodwill! For myself, I can’t really beat Belk’s. It’s a department store in the SE. At the end of every season, they roll rounders out into the walkways and clear every past season item out at $2.98 or $4.98. I’ve gotten things like the cutest Betsey Johnson dress for $4.98 (originally $400), etc… If I just can’t wait ’til then, I still check out the sales racks. I got $200 jeans yesterday for $20. I’ll NEVER pay full price for anything! Now, I’m moving to China…Pearl Market, here I come!!! There’s no telling what I’ll find!!

  11. It’s amazing what a little creativity can do. I love crafty projects, but it can start to break the bank. With a little creativity you never know what the Dollar Store will provide you! Great site!

I have a ton of consignment and re-sale shops around me, so I am thankful that I can go in and purchase a lot of clothing at incredable prices for both of my kids. Plus, it is helpful to be able to buy jeans for $1 or $2 when you have two kids the routinely seem to wear the knees out on their jeans.

I just wrote today about all my bargains at the Mall today. I don’t think I ever pay retail unless it is at a discount store already. I just can’t do it. I already use all the links you have listed I will keep you posted on my bargains. Overstock.com is a great site too.

Everyone loves a good bargain or else Amazon.com would be out of business. I like to go to …now don’t laugh…WalMart. They always have things on their bargain racks that you can pick up for a few dollars.

The Auctionsniper tip (thanks!) reminds me of the vintage jewelry & unusual decor items I’ve found on shopgoodwill.com. If you register, you can enter keywords in your “personal shopper” to receive emails when related items come up for auction, and keep a running “watch list” to see how your favorite auctions are progressing. And the selection is ever-changing & limitless!

I love using thegrocerygame.com to save on my groceries. I used to my all of my toiletry items at Walmart, but with thegrocerygame.com I can get them cheaper at my grocery store. I also love Walgreens and their easy rebates. I have not paid for shampoo or feminime items for the past two years - I always get them free through the rebates.

I love CVS…I got perfume for 90% off the other day. I love math and therefore, it is fun to play “math games” on how to get the best deals!!! I also love to shop at Target in the back of the store “clearance racks”….Something I always do is if there is a scanner available for checking the prices in a store…I will use it…so I am always prepared as to what I will spend!!

CVS hands down. It feels so good to get diapers, which we need anyways, and at the same get all the toothpaste, toothbrushes, makeup, shampoo, candy, razors and lip glosses we could ever use for FREE. By checking online coupon sites, buying 2 Sunday papers and researching sites like this for CVS deal ideas, I have saved this family of almost 5 tons of money!

I’m a sucker for a good bargain. I make a game out of seeing how much money I can save. Just today I went to Deb’s in the mall to get pageant dresses for my daughter. I got two dresses on clarence for the total prize of $35. If I would have paid full price, it would have been over $120. I am also an avid coupon clipper and store sales watcher.

We are BARGAIN people! We shop mostly at Goodwill for our clothing! Although, sometimes our Goodwill is a little over priced for some stuff and you could get the exact same thing NEW at the original shop! Crazy huh!? We are also HUGE budget and DAVE RAMSEY people! Nice to meet you!

What fun to read others shop at Goodwill too. I also find great bargains at garage sales. It just seems silly to me to pay a lot of money for clothes or toys that the kids will outgrow soon anyway.

Hello from Alabama. My name is Mandy and I am mom to a 14 year old boy and almost 3 year old girl. Sorry, I haven’t got a blog up and going yet, just lurking and seeing what it’s all about. Don’t like to feel as though I am spying on people though, so I pop in and let myself be seen. So HI! Nice to meet you.
I love finding good bargains as well. I am not good at it, but I love it when I do find them. Our local thrift store tends to be a bit pricey so good bargains are hard to come by there. But, I keep my eyes open for new shops all the time.
