The Bargain Shopper Lady

Be A Good Steward Challenge!

During high school and college years, I began a habit of raiding the clearance section at every Hallmark store I drove past . (The curse of the bargain shopper!)

Tights

Here is a picture where I bought about $12 worth of tights on sale at The Children’s Place. I think they were about 11 cents each. (You do the math, I got about 90 of them.) I gave away a few of them but I still have a huge bag full of tights. This is how bad I had the “clearance bug”~ I don’t even have any little girls! I have all boys! (If you need any girls tights, please let me know, I have ” a few” of them! :) )

Now that we are moving, I can say that I have learned not to buy lots of “small clearance things” just because they are “on sale.” I am hoping that this trait will last even after we move! My new theme is “If you don’t need it, Don’t buy it (Unless it’s free)!” My poor husband would agree that I have come a long way on this one!

I would like you to share on your blog how you have been a good steward recently. You can show pictures of your savings, lessons you have learned, share organizing tips, or ways you have learned to save money.

DunkinIf you live near a Dunkin Donuts, make sure you take advantage of being a good steward by getting a 99 cent drink today, Tuesday, Feb 26th from 1-10pm.

i have a little 6 yr old princess who loves wearing girly clothes , we go thru so many tights( they seem to shrink so much) - but not to fear, her 3 yr old sister loves getting them passed on to her. if your looking to unload and have any in her size she would love them.

My husband and I have been committed to stewardship since we got married. Some things we do each year is sit down and re-examine our budget and look at anything we can cut out. We recently stopped our Y membership until summer. We always encourage people to stop and track their spending. If you write everything down for a month you are AMAZED at where your money goes. We meet with couples and encourage them to do this and then help then wee d through the wants vs. needs. Certain categories we always encourage people to keep IN their budget is vacation and “date night” money. Even in tight times it’s important to do whatever you can to spend time together as a couple and a family. Our goal is to be a wise steward of all that God has given us so we can be completely debt free in the next 5-8 years and be available to do whatever God is calling us to do. It’s amazing how when you honor God with your finances, get on a budget and remain a faithful giver God literally blesses you with more than you know what to do with (and I’m not talking merely about $$)! One little tool we love is the mortgage calculator…you can check it out here: www.ibudget.blogspot.com…there is also a copy of a budget we recommend on there. It’s a pretty shabby blog, but the calculator and budget are very helpful! :)

I guess one thing we have done this year is incorporate the alot of Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University steps. We created a spreadshee that shows every income/expense for our monthly budget, we established an emergency fund and continuing to add to it monthly, we closed our credit card accounts except for those with a balance and began to use the “snowball” to pay off any existing debts. With this program, we also utilize an envelope system and pay our day to day expenses (groceries, gas, personal stuff, clothing, etc) in cash basis only. That means if it’s not in my envelope, I can’t buy it for that month. That pretty much reduced the amount of “bargain”shopping I could do…yikes. Don’t get me wrong, I still hunt for bargains cuz I can stretch my envelope money. Anyways, we’ve been on the program for 5 months and have already paid off 3 debts…yeah!!!

I’ve bought a few things in the “Clearance” section of Hallmark stores….(and other stores, of course). A great thing to do is make friends with the person who restocks the Hallmark section of stores. They actually are responsible for “disposing of” old stock. They cannot resale it, but can give it out. It is amazing the quantity of tissue paper, gift bags, cards, etc., –all in amazing condition– that Hallmark has to get rid of as new stuff comes in.

If you have any tights in 12-18 months size, please let me know. I’d be happy to take them off your hands. Just let me know what I owe ya.

    Hi-
I recently found your blog and I am hooked! LOL. If you still have any tights left in a size 5 I would gladly buy them from you. My daughter goes through tights like crazy! Thanks so much. Myssie
